Europe dominate but do we care?

Thomas Bjorn’s men came from behind to defeat Team Asia by 14 points to 10 in the weekend’s EurAsia Cup. Heading into Sunday’s singles with a one-point deficit, Bjorn packed the top half of his team with the heavyweights in hope that they’d set the momentum for the day ahead. With eight wins in the opening nine matches, it’s safe to say Bjorn’s tactics worked a treat. Let’s hope the same is true when Team Europe next convene for the Ryder Cup in September.

But do we actually care? A recent survey of several thousand respondents by YouGov suggested that golf is the most boring sport in the world, with 70% of those who’d ever watched it stating that they find it boring. This is one of the huge barriers to participation in our sport and one which the European Tour are trying to combat with innovative events such as GolfSixes. But if the majority of the public are finding golf tedious to watch, what motivation would they have to give it a try or, more importantly, get their children to give golf a go?

The success of TaylorMade's metal wood range in recent years has been phenomenal and 2018 promises to be no different. The M1 and M2 ranges are being replaced by the M3 and M4 line-ups, both consisting of drivers, fairways, rescues and irons. The biggest talking point is Twist Face on the drivers, which really could be a game-changer when it comes to accuracy off the tee. PING Max out their range

The current line-up of G400 drivers from PING is fantastic, with a Low Spin model (LST) for a lower launch and greater speed, a Straight Flight version (SFT) for a higher launch that helps correct a slice, and the Standard version that sits somewhere between the two. To complete the line-up, PING is launching a fourth model, G400 Max, which offers distance through forgiveness, and will be available to try in-store this February.
