Rory creates history Rory McIlroy wrote his name into the history books once again by becoming the first European to win three World Golf Championship events with a first hole playoff victory over Xander Schauffele at the HSBC Champions in China. The Northern Irishman executed his second shot to perfection under pressure on the par-5 18th to leave him able to seal the deal with a birdie whilst Schauffele could only manage par to hand Rory his fourth victory in 2019. End of an era For the first time since November 1993, Phil Mickelson’s name will not feature in the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 50. A tie for 28th at the WGC-HSBC Champions meant the longest consecutive run inside the top fifty by anyone since the records began in 1986 came to a close. Mickelson did not seem too perturbed though simply saying – “It was a good run, but I’ll be back". |
